ROUTE: Rohanne Cox will partake in a procession through Chinatown (Short Street, Carnarvan Street and Napier Terrace and then make her way down Hamersley Street to Shinju Matsuri Festival Closing Ceremony at Bedford Park for a presentation and speech.

Come on Broome, let's all get together and line the streets for a hero's welcome. We look forward to seeing all of Broome support our first ever Olympic medalist.

Hiromi Ashlin Wins Shire of Broome Shinju Matsuri Acquisitive Art Prize

Hiromi Ashlin has taken out the Shire of Broome Shinju Matsuri Art Prize for 2008 winning $7,000 and earning a place within the Shire's Shinju Matsuri Art Prize Collection.

The piece titled Tako To Sora is Hiromi's interpretation of kite and sky and was named the winner from 76 artworks submitted for the annual exhibition.

The Shire of Broome Shinju Matsuri Acquisitive Art Prize is awarded annually to encourage the development of Kimberley art and artists and to add to the Shire's art collection. The 2008 exhibition is being held in the Shire of Broome Function Room from 26 - 30 August, Tuesday to Friday 9am to 4pm and on Saturday from 9am to 1pm. Don't forget to vote for your favourite artwork in the People's Choice Award.

Housing Availability, Affordability, Suitability in Broome – Have your Say

The Draft Broome Local Housing Strategy has been released for public comment until 17 September 2008. The draft strategy looks at ways to ease the shortfall in both the availability and supply of land and sufficient housing, within Council’s limited control.

Complete a submission form and provide Council with your thoughts on the draft strategy.

Broome Triathlon

Do you enjoy running, swimming or cycling? Maybe all three? Why not enter the Broome Triathlon as an individual or as part of a team.

With different courses, including one for kids, the Broome Triathlon caters for the experienced endurance competitor through to the first-time triathlete. Official times will be clocked and there will be prizes for the first three place getters in each course.

Sponsored by the Shire of Broome and Department of Sport and Recreation, the Broome Triathlon will be held on 31 August 2008 at 7am at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre.
